Who is Colie Williams?

Colie Williams is a person who loves life and wants to make the most of each and every day. Colie is concerned about the human condition and believes in love and family. Colie is also unafraid to stand up for what she believes in. She’s kind, but won’t take any junk off people either. I am a creative soul who believes that a vision and then action can change your current reality. That is of course if you’d like to change it-(smile).

Your debut album “Light Up the Darkness” is full of great music! How can you describe the album? How you felt during the making of it?

Thank you so much! We call our music Holistic Soul. With Holistic Soul we take music and fuse different genres together into one story. Holistic Soul also seeks to uplift, heal when necessary and get folks moving. The album is a tapestry of feelings and experiences that I and my co-writer and the producers chose to share with the world. I believe the best songs tell you a story. Honestly during the making of it-I felt a wide range of emotions-stressed, proud, determined-so many things. Stressed-because I wanted it to be a great piece, and I struggled with trying to make everything perfect and just trying to get it done. Proud-when I thought of the magnitude of what I was doing-particularly for my Dad’s legacy. He was a wonderful singer who’s dream was to be successful in music, but he gave that up when he started his family. Determined-because no matter what I was going to finish it. I believe in finishing what you start especially once you decide that it’s worth finishing.

Your music is a beautiful piece of art. Your voice sounds as a dream. How important is music to you? What inspires you to make music that can touch all of us?

What wonderful thoughts you have about the CD. I greatly appreciate it. It means a lot to me. Music is everything!! It’s what can bring us closer to The Creator. It’s spiritual, it’s unexplainable, it’s heaven here on earth. When I’m in a zone when I am singing I feel like I can fly and there are times when working with artists and musicians I can literally get chills on stage, because the God Force is so strong on the stage. What inspires me-A desire to fulfill my purpose here on Earth. This is one of the things I believe I was put here to do and I must see it through. I feel so blessed!

What do you remember most strongly from your childhood?

I have many fond memories. I thank The Creator so much for allowing me to enter into a wonderful family. Growing up-I use to think my family was the best in the world. As you grow up you learn more about these people, and you realize they had issues like everyone else, but I thank them for helping me feel safe and loved and proud of my heritage and fearless. I grew up with very big personalities. My Grandmother was a great inspiration. She was like a second mother. I adored her. We didn’t always see eye to eye, but I loved that she thought outside of the box-nothing was impossible to her. She was quirky and funny and the glue that held my family together. As I grow older I realize that she has had a profound affect on me.

What are your fondest musical memories?

So many great musical memories. I think my fondest memories are those intimate moments when my sister and I harmonized with my Dad at home or when I harmonized at work at a restaurant with a co-worker while we were getting the food from the back, rehearsing w/the band and getting something just right. I have had many wonderful moments on stage, but it’s those intimate moments behind the scenes when you reach true perfection that I love the most-also the other night I did a cover of Corrine Bailey Rae’s Enchantment and it felt like everything in the room stopped. When the God within me can make everything in the room stop that is beautiful and scary at the same time, because I don’t think human beings have realized how powerful we really are. When we fuse the power of our minds, our hearts and spirit together we are amazing. I find it so sad that we are working at half our capacity.

Who are your musical inspirations?

So many-My Daddy, Stevie Wonder, Roberta Flack, Billy Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Donny Hathaway to name a few-oh and this man who my Grandma use to take me to see. He sang spirituals and opera and we adored him. He was a local singer in New Jersey. When I got older I realized we were like his groupies. My Grandma would dress me up-I’m talking I would really get dressed up-long dress, my grandma would sweep a bun up in my hair, dress shoes, little purse and we would go to see him wherever he was performing. I can’t remember his name, and Grandma has passed away-so I don’t have his name, but I have the memory. He was grand and a wonderful singer. I didn’t realize as a child, (because I do believe children really don’t judge) that he looked like a cross between Little Richard and Prince-Hilarious!!

Do you have a message for PopingCherry? Do you have something you want to share with us? A dream? An expectation? A promise for your future?

My dream is to continue to make great music and to use my music to uplift and inspire and bring attention to things that need some extra loving care. I promise to keep working at being the best I can be, and I thank all the wonderful beautiful people who have supported me and encouraged me to press on!
